Obviously, I do not (and cannot) know what Kurumada-Sensei was thinking when he chose the names for his Saints, and who or what he named them after. Yet, it’s easy to notice how most of those names belong to actual geographical places. This occurrence always delighted me, and strongly piqued my interest… Hence, the post. :)

Aries Saint:

SHION = shi'-on (shi'on; Codex Vaticanus Siona, Codex Alexandrinus Seian)Hebrew for “ruin”. Mentioned in the bible, it is a town in the territory of Issachar, situated between Deburi/Daberath, and Jafa/Japhia a few miles northwest of Mount Tabor. Mentioned in the Book of Joshua, Chapter 19:19 (“And Hapharaim, and Shion, and Anaharath,”), it is possibly identical with the modern village Sain (Khirbet Sha'in). (my guess is that Shion also means something in Japanese, but… Yeah. *lol*).
